News - Missionary in Critical Condition After Attempt on Life

Des Moines, July 11th, 2005- An Iowa missionary remains in critical condition at Methodist Hospital.
One week ago, assassins tried to kill John Leonard after a church service he pastored in Brazil. Leonard was rushed to Methodist Hospital this weekend, suffering from gunshot wounds to his face. Leonard did awake from his coma, and responded to his family. Doctors cannot perform surgery on him yet, because he's at risk for pneumonia.
Leonard's close friend says the missionary received an incredible outpouring of support. John Leonard's wife and four children are by his side. Iowa Senator Charles Grassley has now gotten involved in the investigation in Brazil.
